I’ve been wanting to find a way to thank you – my faithful readers – for all your support, great questions, and insights for a while now. It occurred to me that a fun way to do this would be to give you a present! I wish I had the means to give each and every one of you a gift, but this is the next best thing: I’m going to gift one lucky reader with this awesome VitaClay slow cooker.
Now this isn’t some humdrum boring old slow cooker that makes a decent pot of chili. This thing’s got skillz. For starters:
- The pot is made from all-natural unglazed pure clay. This means no nasty aluminum, lead or other non-stick chemical coatings to infect your food. As a nice bonus the clay will intensify the flavor of whatever you’re making. (A piece of kitchen gear that makes you look better as a chef… Can’t go wrong with that!)
- It cooks up to 4 times faster than a conventional slow cooker. Essential for the time-conscious among us.
- It has all the benefits of slow cooking – delicious and easy to prepare meals that are easily digested and packed full of important nutrients, enzymes and vitamins.
- It makes yogurt. Seriously! (This was the seller for me)
- It’s programmable for 10 minutes up to 5 hours of cooking time with 10 minutes increments. It also has a delay timer and automatic Keep Warm function.
As the weather cools and schedules get busier with the holidays fast approaching, efficient meal prep and nourishing stews and slow cooked meals are top of my list of essentials. Let us help you out and get your dinner off to a particularly delicious start.
As a bonus, we’ll send three never-before-seen Chef James slow-cook recipes that he’s been perfecting over the last few months. You can be our official recipe tester!

I love the beef stew recipe from the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook I received as a wedding shower gift in 1962! I would be SO excited to be able to put this on in the morning and come home in the evening to wonderful, warm lentil soup! (Side note, the recipe is actually called Welcome Home Lentils! How perfect).

Wonderful slow cooker give away! I like to slow cook on days I am doing several days of food prep for the week. I like to make an extremely basic chicken broth to use in recipes. One package about 6 to eight chicken legs organic, 1/2 large or one small onion quartered, sea salt easy can add more after to taste, pepper. If available a squeeze of a piece of lemon or touch of apple cider vinegar. Add spring or filtered water until water level is a few inches over top of chicken. Cook for 10 or more hours. Strain and you have a base for cooking.

The mind spins with everything from slow roasted meats to sweet desserts. Thanks so much for offering the possibility.

This slow cooker looks amazing! I adore making stuffed peppers in a slow cooker!
My favorite thing to make in the slow cooker is chicken stock. I usually use a roasted carcass, throw in onions and carrots and a little celery. I let it cook for a good long time, til it’s richly colored and equally rich tasting. We often drink so much of it just as it is, that there isn’t always enough left for a big batch of soup.
Thank you — I always enjoy your newsletters, and as soon as the new kitchen is running, we are going back to eating naked! We did your detox last January.
Additional items for the chicken soup: backs and necks, and feet when I can find them. I will have to break down and go to Whole Foods for them, I think. Need to find a very local source.
