Have you ever wondered if what you’re eating is making your anxiety worse? Or whether you can actually help ease your anxiety through basic dietary changes?
The answer to both these questions is a resounding Yes!
It turns out diet has an enormous role to play in all forms of mental health, including anxiety.
In this video, I explain what foods will make anxiety worse, and what foods to eat to keep your anxiety at bay.
Your food choices will either exacerbate or reduce your anxiety.
If you’re interested in the topic of diet and anxiety, my good friend and colleague Trudy Scott literally wrote the book on it: The Anti-Anxiety Food Solution. I highly recommend checking it out.
Great video. This is incredibly helpful!
Thank you Heather! So glad you got something from the video. Wishing you all the best!
Thank you for sharing info about this topic. I literally just asked my naturopath about this a few weeks ago, not just for myself but for my mental health clients also. I will definitely recommend this book.
I also have a question: the biggest challenge I experience when it comes to eating well is having the headspace to implement new habits. Being raised by two parents working outside the home, I grew up knowing how to make mac n cheese and spaghetti, and how to read the instructions on a box. I’ve learned a lot about cooking with whole foods from scratch but now that I’m busy working with three young children I find it hard to cook good food and go out of my way to shop for good food. When I was working part time I had the brain space for it. Now at 32 hrs per week I don’t. And I dont think it’s an issue of having the time to do the physical shopping or cooking, it seems to be more an issue of making space in my head. I’ll do things like meal plan and shop on Saturday but that’s about all I can fit in on the weekend. Then because I’m busy the rest of the week the food will go to waste because it feels like so much effort to implement new skills when I’m exhausted. I wonder if there are tips or mindset shifts that might help me overcome this barrier?
This is a great question, Sheena, and I’ve added it to our list for an upcoming video because it deserves more than just a quick reply in comments! Stay tuned…
Another super-informative video!
The roller-coaster comparison hits the spot.
Given the complexity and importance of the gut-brain axis, it’s clear why food is so important for proper mental health. Certain probiotic strains are proven to reduce the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental issues.
Thanks and keep it up!
Thanks Alex! Glad you’re so tuned into the health work. All the best!
Wow! This is really informative and I have learned a lot from this article. I didn’t know that food could induce anxiety. Thank you so much for enlightening me.
